Since Sherri is still working on updating the website with the new rules, we wanted to share with you the rule changes for the 2011-2012 season.  While they are not "word-for-word" as written in the rule book that was handed out at the Bartonia Rodeo in your Membership Packets, it will give you an idea as to what was changed:

Breakaway roping K-1-2 - K-1-2 members use a breakaway honda and to be able to rebuild their rope instead of carrying two ropes. The loop will need to go over the head and a bell collar catch is not required.  Contestant is only allowed to rebuild the loop one time and cannot carry two loops. An approved breakaway honda can only be used. Approved style Breakaway hondas will be listed in the rule book. To count as a good catch the rope must be tight when the breakaway releases.

If the Honda comes apart and does not qualify as a catch the child may put the Honda back together and create a new loop for their second loop. No white flag is needed. Time will stop when comes tight and breaks away.

Here is the approved style breakaway - a Van Quick style  http://www.nrsworld.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=VQR!VANHU
Also, you can see Scott Colby or Brodie Zimmerman to purchase hondas that Scott Colby made.

Barrel Racers 3-4-5 Girls and 6-7-8 Girls use metal barrels.  K-1-2 will still uses plastic. Barrel covers will continue to be used. Suggested that barrel racers use shin guards.

6-7-8 Bull Riders will need to declare themselves to the judge to qualify for a re-ride if they feel they have been fouled by the gate or the bull

K-5 bull riders do not have to declare themselves to qualify for a reride

Mutton busters do not have to declare themselves to qualify for a reride

Run Thru vs Walk Thru Gate & Alley Way - Judges and arena director will determine if there will be a run through or walk through gate based on the way the arena conditions. If it is a run through gate there will be a maximum of a 50' alley and the contestant can't begin to run until they have entered the alley. If it is a walk through gate then the contestant may not run until they have entered the arena. Contestants can have parents or help in the alley way (unless it is a Cinch rodeo and then Cinch contestants must follow Cinch rules based on how that rule book reads) What was discussed is that the mouth of the alley way will be set up so that you enter the alley from the side and then go - so it is not an open mouth,-run straight in. This will be conditions permitting. So something like this - an L shape is what was described by the guy who sets up our arena. The rule does not specifically state that the entry to the alley will look just like this - it may change based on how well it works or doesn't work or how much room there is to set up the arena

The vertical line above would be a panel  - you would enter from the side and then run down the alley

Hat Rule: Removed the hat rule from the rule book which states that contestants will be given a 10 second penalty if their hat is lost during a run - this no longer applies. Hats should be put on to stay on, but the rule was removed because sometimes stampeed strings do break and the board did not want that to cost someone the saddle, trip to Gallup etc.

Please contact a board member if you have any questions about the above mentioned rules.
