MUTTON BUSTING K-1-2 Boys Event and Girls Event

 

A.    TIME LIMIT: 6 Seconds for Qualified Ride.

Mutton busting will be scored first within the time limit (buzzer) and the judge’s score, secondly by the stopwatch with a minimum of one (1) second. Each judge to score 1-25 points on the stock, and 1-25 points on the contestant for a total of 100 possible points.

B.    Riding will be done with one or two hands, with overlapped rope. If the ride is started with one hand, it must be finished with the same one hand to be considered a qualified ride.  If the ride is started with two hands, it must be finished with two hands to be considered a qualified ride.  The ride must be started in the sitting position.  The stock contractor will apply the rope. 

C.    When animal is ready Contestant will have two (2) minutes to nod. 

1.           Judges have the right to approve or disapprove ropes and equipment.

2.           No spurs allowed.

D.    Time begins when sheep’s inside shoulder crosses the plane of the chute.

E.     Contestant will be disqualified for any of the following:

1.         Not being ready when called.

2.         Being bucked off before allotted time.

3.         Touching any part of the animal, equipment, or person with the free hand if rider begins ride with one hand.

4.         Using spurs.

5.         Losing hold of rope.

F.     If a contestant feels he/she is entitled to a re-ride, the contestant must go to the Arena Director and request a re-ride before the event is over.  The Arena Director will make note of this and take it to the Judges for a decision.

G.        The K-1-2 contestant has the option of selecting mutton busting or calf riding – cannot compete in both.  A contestant may have one trial calf ride per season and choose to go back to mutton busting if he/she so chooses. (Mutton Busting is designed as an introductory event into calf riding.)

H.       6 second rides only will be scored and no points given for rides less then 6 seconds.

 

MANDATORY:  Contestant must wear safety-approved vest and mouthpiece.
